EDRAM is never quite as dense as standard DRAM processes, but different manufacturers have different densities. It is my understanding that the denser the EDRAM, the more expensive the process that it requires. So it is a trade off situation, just like everything else in memory.

Of course on chip, there is no reason for the complications of RDRAM. I saw an announcement that involved an EDRAM that was more than 1000 bits wide recently. That is a lot of bandwidth, and no pins to have to buy...
