Glenn, new home starts dropped off quite a bit in July. (Not sure about existng home sales.) Home sales are the biggest cause of consumer spending, which in turn is 2/3 of the gdp. Most retail chains have begun to report flat or negative same store sales v. 1999. And growth in auto sales has been dropping all year. (But I should not have responded to your post- I'm sure you can poke many holes in my argument!) Victor
