David phone.com seems to be the only competition but even they aren't as they are providing things that are different.....the biggest product they seem to have is a popular minibrowser.....infospace needs to get a product like that ...minibrowsers take a regular webpage that is made ready for cell phones and allow it to be displayed on a cell phone....I am not certain but probably the browser alltel uses is that one from phone.com.....you will note that on the infospace page for setup on alltel there is a section where you can bookmark web pages.......well that is the competition as all the information infospace is offering without minibrowser can also be found on those web pages and much more....so if you only had a minibrowser you could get everything you wanted setting it directly up on the cellphone (although that would be tedious typing in web pages on a cell phone). Doing it the way the carriers have set it up with infospace gives a way to organize this setup on the desktop which is obviously much easier. .....As I said before the minbrowser experience is very slow at the moment so the infospace direct data is fast and easy but much more limited....Eventually cellphones will get much better it terms of loading time for data on the minibrowser pages so I think the cross platform capability that infospace is working on is key as this will be a key next step to keep people needing to and wanting to use the infospace setup page....

alltel, verizon and att have the minibrowser features but voicestream doesn't.....I think voicestream doesn't as yet as they run gsm which would then run wap but wap not working here in usa...the other carriers use other protocols that allow minibowser to work in usa. I think cdma and cdpd or something like that I get all these protocol letters mixed up.
