Charles, Re: Unless these numbers improve significantly (10% or more) for the final version Intel could be in a world of hurt.

If they prove true (I'm still somewhat skeptical) there would be only one target group for the P4: game enthusiasts. And they are usually very good informed and often favour AMD solutions because of their better price/performance ratio. So there would be virtually no one buying these CPUs unless they fell dramatically in price (which is unlikely due to big die size). It's still possible that the bin splits are extremely good (i.e. 2 GHz in Q1) but even that would be a problem for Intel because they couldn't sell their P3s then.

If the numbers are correct a Thunderbird 1.2 GHz with DDR Ram would easily beat the P4 in the vast majority of benchmarks and there would be very favorable press for AMD. I heard rumors that most hardware sites already have working AMD 760 boards and AMD will lift the NDA the same time P4 arrives. Imagine the publicity then... Especially if a lower clocked Thunderbirds beats an higher clocked P4.

Okay, enough dreaming. ;-) But unless Intel has some trump cards unplayed (e.g. deactivating some functions in their engineering samples), AMD will have a "home run" this year and next year. And at that time -- I think -- even the street would realize the great opportunities for AMD.
