(But I should not have responded to your post- I'm sure you can poke many holes in my
argument!)

Victor,

I am not sure if you are teasing me or I have "picked on you" in the past?? Anyhow, you are correct about new homes, automobiles. I believe the products most often financed have slowed which makes sense based on the raise in interest rates. That does show a slowing economy.

The retail chains you mention showing slowing are the ones not executing. You will see growth I believe in the few that execute correctly. That may be the cause of the large negative savings rate in the US.

We could be looking at two or more than two segments here. The slowing that you make reference to is what I believe the Fed was after and it is working. This should also keep inflation in hand. I am not good at macroeconomics so do not know what effect an increase in spending does compared to income.

Glenn

PS Did I ever insult you???
