hi appro

i like your top ten lists. they lend a much needed letterman-esque quality to the thread...

now that you've banished the 'scan with nav' choice from the right-click menu, let me share with you what i think is its greatest attribute.

scene 1: you've just downloaded a file from the web. you are anxious to install the program and try it out. your good security sense reminds you that before opening the new arrival and spilling its contents all over your hard drive, it would be wise to check same for virus infection.

your mouse pointer is hovering over the file in explorer. you realize it will only take 10 seconds to be safe. so you do it. you right-click the still unopened file and choose 'scan with norton antivirus'. the seconds tick off 4...3...2...1... a familiar dialog pops up on your desktop saying 'no viruses were detected in the scan'. you smile to yourself. man, this sure is easy.

scene 2: you are putting together an email to a friend. she needs a particular system file because hers is corrupted, and you assured her that it would be no trouble to attach and send yours to her. again, your mouse pointer hovers over the designated file... you pause and ask yourself a critical question, "do i want to attach an infected file to my friend's email?". of course you don't. you reach for the right-click button. up pops the World Famous 'scan with norton antivirus' selection. you make that choice. you are a silent hero.

scene 3: you are preparing to make a few registry tweaks. you know from past experience how vital it is to back up your user.dat and system.dat files. once again, your mouse pointer is aimed at the designated files, ready to 'send' those babies to your removable disk. a thought crosses your mind... "what if those files have a virus hiding in there that slipped in since my last scan two days ago?". nobody wants to run a full scan. oh yeah, that's right, just right-click and choose 'scan with norton antivirus'! then my back ups are guaranteed to be good to go.

scene 4: well, you get the idea

:)
