I respect your opinion. You have stated one side of the argument (albeit with far too many sweeping generalizations). There also is another side, as I have tried to state.

Here's another thing to consider: At my place of employment, one is not obligated to join the union, and 25 percent of the employees have chosen to remain non-union. There is no discrimination against these people. We work side by side as a team. When asked why they don't join, they usually mutter something about the dues being too high ($13 a week). Never has someone told me that he or she did so out for political reasons.

Does it upset me that, when I negotiate a contract with management, these people also benefit as much as I do?

Not really. If they can look themselves in the mirror every morning and are happy that others are working for their benefit, that's their business. Me? I prefer to put my money where my beliefs are, thank you. I have many faults but being a free-loader is not one of them.
