OT - He is saying that some folks think doom and gloom is cool; kind of the opposite of a US politician on the 4th of July waving flags, kissing babies and telling us how great we are.... European "intellectuals" have dined out on the doom and gloom theme for decades. Part of the reason they mostly don't like the US, this endless optimism we have about the future. Doom and gloom also leads the intellectual and artsy crowd to wear black a lot to be different...they did it so much it's the standard uniform for people trying not to look like the rest of the crowd. Bear Down is part of a little gang that likes to dress up as anti-Wall Street crusaders and cheer themselves on a lot. Sometimes good picks, sometimes not from what I hear lately. ;<) No position or real interest in KREM here, just tripped across your post and found it interesting.
