Global Village Ships TelePort 56 Modems for Macintosh and Windows

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 19, 1997--Global Village Communication, Inc. (NASDAQ:GVIL) announced today that it is shipping its entire product family of TelePort 56 modems for both Macintosh and Windows that incorporate x2 or K56flex technologies. The TelePort 56 fax/modems are available through leading computer retail stores and catalogs.

The TelePort 56 fax/modems for Windows are based on genuine x2 technology and are available as an internal ISA card or an external fax/modem. TelePort 56 external fax/modems for Macintosh provides users with a choice of either x2 or K56flex technologies.

``While some other companies chose to ship 56Kbps products prematurely, Global Village is taking advantage of newer software upgradable DSPs designed to give our customers the best opportunity to upgrade modem in the future,'' said Neil Selvin, president and CEO of Global Village. ``With the software upgradable DSP, award winning software and a competitive price, the TelePort 56 modems are a good value, easy to use and make communications simple.''

The TelePort 56 family of products include easy to use fax software and file transfer capabilities that customers have come to expect from Global Village. The 56k technology represents the biggest modem performance improvement ever, with typical connection speed improvements of 18,000-24,000 bps over V.34 modems.

The estimated street price of the TelePort 56 for Windows is $159 for the internal ISA card, and $169 for the external desktop modem. The TelePort 56 fax/modems for Macintosh (x2 or K56flex technologies) have an estimated street price of $219.
