How far back can Rambus ask for back royalties on DDR or SDRAM?
The following questions were posed on the FOOL.

In examining the "pressure points" that Rambus can use to enforce its SDram patents, e.g. negotiations, MM/OEM lawsuits, FTC intervention, etc., what are the limitations on Rambus in its pursuit of SDram royalties?

For example, does the "pay" date extend back to 1996, when SDrams were first produced? or Is the "pay" date April, 2000, when Rambus was finally granted their patents? While I realize that we do not know the details of the Hitachi settlement, could Rambus' agreement with Hitachi limit how far back in time other memory makers would be required to pay past royalties, e.g. anti-trust implications? I would be interested in the thoughts of our patent/patent enforcement lawyers on this topic.
