Did you know that the container port/cruise ship facility that Hutchison-Whampoa is building in the Bahamas is being described in some circles as a Chinese military base? newsmax.com I thought it interesting that the losing bidder in the Panama contract (which, it should probably be pointed out, is not for the management of the canal, but for the management of ports near the ends of the canal) was Bechtel, a company with known and extensive links to the US military and intelligence services. I've thought all along that this was more a restraint of trade issue than a security issue; that bit of information does nothing to change my mind.
