Vodafone, Microsoft develop m-intranet services
LONDON, Sept 5 (Reuters) - Mobile telecoms company Vodafone Group (quote from Yahoo! UK & Ireland: VOD.L) and U.S. software giant Microsoft Corp (NasdaqNM:MSFT - news) said on Tuesday they were working together on a European trial of new corporate mobile intranet products and services.

The two firms said the services were due to be rolled out commercially by spring 2001 and trials would be carried out using mobile handsets powered by Microsoft's Mobile Explorer product, which allows users to access a wide range of mobile and Internet services.

The European market has seen dramatic moves in the mobile Internet sector over the past year, with the British and German governments winning respectively about $33 billion and $45 billion through their auctions of new generation UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) licences.

Vodafone shares were up by 10 pence, or 3.5 percent, to 295p by 1000 GMT. The stock has outperformed its sector by about three percent since March.
