Tuesday September 5, 8:17 am Eastern Time

Press Release

Represents Sixth EBT Scanner Sale in Third Quarter

SO. SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 5, 2000- Imatron Inc. (Nasdaq:IMAT - news) announced today that it has sold the Company's first mobile Electron Beam Tomography (EBT) scanner to EBT Mobile Scanners Northwest, LLC, headquartered in Mission Viejo, California, and partnered with the Heart Institute of the Cascades at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend, Oregon. This mobile system sale will be recorded in the Company's third quarter financial results and represents the sixth EBT scanner sale to date during the quarter.

EBT Mobile Scanners Northwest, LLC, in partnership with St. Charles Medical Center in Bend, Oregon, will offer mobile EBT services to a variety of healthcare providers in the Pacific Northwest. Services provided will include coronary artery scanning, lung scanning and electron beam angiography (EBA).

Samuel J. Camarata, MD, CEO of EBT Mobile Scanners Northwest, LLC, stated, ``We are pleased to bring the first mobile EB scanner to Bend, Oregon and the communities of the Pacific Northwest. Our organization has placed an order for the second mobile unit manufactured by Imatron. We expect delivery of the second unit in the October-November 2000 timeframe. Spreading the cost of this significant capital investment among various healthcare providers allows us to make this unique technology available to many smaller communities whose medical facilities do not yet have access to an EBT scanner. We look forward to expanding our mobile EBT business nationwide.''

Bruce H. Brundage, MD, Medical Director and world renowned expert in the development of clinical applications of EBT in the diagnosis of coronary heart disease, stated, ``I am looking forward to bringing EBT technology to the medical communities of the Pacific Northwest. We are providing many people with an opportunity to access this life-saving technology and believe that our mobile EBT business will provide a significant benefit to medical communities nationwide.''

Rick Martin, Senior Vice President of Operations at St. Charles Medical Center, said, ``We are extremely pleased to partner with the country's first mobile EBT provider, EBT Mobile Scanners Northwest, LLC, to make EBT technology available to communities that do not have access to an EBT scanner. Mobile EBT provides a feasible alternative for a smaller medical center to participate in offering this significant and vitally important service to its community.''

S. Lewis Meyer, CEO of Imatron, commented, ``Imatron is pleased to announce this sale of our first mobile EBT scanner to EBT
Mobile Scanners Northwest, LLC. The principals in this venture bring a wealth of experience in providing shared medical services to a broad range of healthcare providers. Imatron's engineering and customer service team has thoroughly and successfully tested this 'state-of-the-art' turnkey mobile EBT system. We believe that our entry into the mobile imaging marketplace represents a
major opportunity for future Imatron EBT scanner sales. With approximately 700 mobile MRI systems now in service across the
United States, the business model, based on sharing the significant capital cost of advanced medical imaging equipment among
multiple users, has clearly proven to be a successful and widely replicated one. Imatron's sales momentum continues to accelerate
and we would expect that our participation in developing and pursuing new market opportunities for our proprietary EBT
technology will further increase sales and profitability.''
