GPRS is a fraud with much lower data rates than promised. We see that China has GPRS going. Perhaps they have realized what liers NOK and ERICY have been with their claims of high data rates with GPRS. Perhaps this info leads Unicom's Yang to examine Korea's 1X MC CDMA system next week.

Asia's first GPRS in
Shenzhen

The first GPRS commercial system in Asia was
put into operation in Shenzhen (Guangdong
Province). Similar systems are running on a trial
basis in Beijing, Shanghai and Jiangsu,
Chinanetnews.net reported.

Developed by Shenzhen Unicom and Motorola,
the GPRS system in Shenzhen is designed to
ensure a smooth transition to the third-generation
(3G) mobile network of China Unicom.

Compared with GSM, GPRS systems ensure
uninterrupted on-line service, enable wireless
transmission at a much faster speed (24-171k, as
compared with 9.6k for WAP transmission), and
allow charging according to the actual volume of
information transmission.

GPRS can also make effective use of existing
GSM network resources and protect the
investment already put in by Internet service
providers.

The first GPRS system in the world was put into
commercial use in Britain on June 22 this year.
