Finally, it's here.

"Sun Microsystems Inc. plans to launch its long-delayed UltraSPARC III processor on Sept. 11"

www5.zdnet.com

"Sun initially will use the UltraSPARC III in Solaris workstations and eventually will integrate the chip into an upgraded line of servers, code-named Serengeti, that will culminate with the introduction of new high-servers early next year."

Early next year except for little tiny single one processor workstations?

Clever marketing and PR hype I must say, but ya can't fool me. Why no SMP boards until next year? What's the problem?

Bookmark this post, we will not see a E10000 replacement in the next 6 months like the author implies.

Meanwhile, back at IBM, things are booming.
