JBK,
CATT is on record as being interested in making acquisitions. In their press release 4/25/00 they stated, "we will continue to examine strategic acquisitions". As far as what they would be looking for, I think it would mainly be 2 things. First, companies that have programmers and engineers that can work on the development of existing CATT products. The biggest challenge facing CATT right now is finding the programmers and engineers they need in order to be able to handle the growth in demand for their products that they expect. Competition for qualified people is especially difficult in Silicon Valley right now. One way for CATT to find the people they need would be to buy another company that has programmers and engineers on staff. Second, CATT will also be looking for companies that have products that are complementary to the ones they already have. For example, CATT is making a big push into the voice over IP market right now, with Cisco now becoming a major customer. So another company with products that could be sold in this market could be attractive.

As far as CATT being bought out by a larger company such as Agilent, it's always a possibility. However, I think they will most likely remain an independent company.
