(This is not aimed at you per se dmp.)

I have seen a couple of posts now where people have said "Oh, but X would or would not have happened if not for the news." or "If news comes there is no way it will do X.", as if to imply that the TA may well be invalidated by news.

Another sort of related comment is "How interesting that we can break down a TA pattern using an FA explanation."

Both of these comments are interesting to me. Better TA types than me will tell you that the chart is telegraphing pending news or a pending fundamental change. It is not surprising to me when the news comes. It usually reinforces a chart pattern.

For example, there are many coiling patterns and I can not tell you how often I have watched a stock coil only to have it break out on/before news. The point is, the style of the coil is often tipping you off to pending news -- it's not a surprise.

A related very common pattern that most everyone has noted is where we get a coil or a basing pattern, a breakout, and then news followed by a sell off. The news was telegraphed.

So, my point is, news does not work against TA. TA is most often a harbinger of news.

Sometimes of course this is not so. Sometimes news comes out of left field and changes the fundamental picture.
