"Compaq business on track..." /Piotr RESEARCH ALERT-Bear Stearns boosts IBM earnings views NEW YORK, Sept 5 (Reuters) - Bear Stearns analyst Andy Neff said late on Tuesday he has boosted earnings estimates for the next two years on International Business Machines Corp (NYSE:IBM - news). -- Neff said the move pushed him to the mid-range of the current analysts' range of views from the low-end of estimates. -- The analyst also said that after checking up on demand for personal computers, he believed that business was on track for Apple Computer Inc (NasdaqNM:AAPL - news), Dell Computer Corp (NasdaqNM:DELL - news), Compaq Computer Corp (NYSE:CPQ - news) and Gateway Inc (NYSE:GTW - news) and reflected ``normal seasonal trends''. -- Neff said he boosted the current 2000 year earnings estimate to $4.45 from $4.35 per share previously and to $5 per share from $4.95 for 2001, based on an expected favourable mix of higher margin services, hardware and software revenues. -- He maintained his buy rating on the world's largest computer maker. -- His comments on PC makers appeared to counter concerns raised by rivals at competing brokerages in recent days, in particular cautious remarks by Piper Jaffrays' Ashok Kumar on Compaq, Dell and Gateway. Kumar questioned whether Dell would manage to meet revenue expectations for its current quarter.
