i haven't seen the #'s, but i'd guess there were as many individual investors running for the doors in the Emulex debacle as there were institutional investors....

yes, there's certainly a "herd mentality" in investing.... but i'd again suggest it's as high, if not higher, in individual investing as it is in institutional. ok, maybe the individuals are being led around by the institutions (in there retail dept). but there are likely fewer momentum funds than there are momentum individual investors. and there are likely far fewer investment advisors and private money managers that employ such an investment strategy.

i wonder how many "professionals" day trade in comparison to individual investors?
