MSP1000 Product Overview Now on Qualcomm website. No Press Release Yet.

qualcomm.com

The Mobile Station Processor 1000 (MSP1000) solution is a microprocessor-based system that performs functions associated with Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) applications. The new MSP1000 chipset and its associated system software will allow manufacturers to respond quickly to the challenges of changing customer demands and leverage a single system design into several platforms, each with its own feature set.

By enabling faster design, development and production of new or market-specific products, the MSP1000 will assist manufacturers in rapidly and cost-effectively addressing user demands for new features in three key areas: richer and more intuitive user interfaces, more complex applications and higher speeds for data transfer over the air.

The MSP1000 chipset incorporates an ARM720T microprocessor core and, as part of a complete wireless Internet solution, complements QUALCOMM's Wireless Internet Launchpad suite of advanced multimedia, connectivity, position location, user interface and removable storage technologies and capabilities. The ARM microprocessor, dedicated to the operation of user interface and applications tasks, enables QUALCOMM's associated Mobile Station Modem (MSM) chipsets to operate at ever-increasing data rates. The MSP1000 chipset supports the most popular third-party operating systems, Java, MPEG-4, Web browsers and other proprietary systems.

The MSP1000's unique architecture is optimized to deliver maximum performance for the selected operating system and is designed for highly demanding user interfaces and applications. Through very fast shared memory, the MSP1000 chipset interfaces with QUALCOMM's family of MSM chipsets for multimedia applications and third-generation (3G) 1x Evolution (1xEV) services. By simply selecting a different MSM chipset from QCT's pin-compatible MSM roadmap, manufacturers can develop a variety of platforms with distinct feature sets, all from a single system design. This will enable manufacturers to address a wide variety of markets or market segments while improving time-to-market and lowering overall program costs.

MSP1000 Key Benefits include:

* Direct interface to QUALCOMM MSM3100, MSM3300, MSM5105, MSM5100, and iMSM5500 chips

* Supports numerous industry or proprietary operating systems

* High-performance, low-power microprocessor

Several products shown on Qualcomm's most recent published roadmap (4-28-00) including the MSM5100 have been removed from the Qualcomm website. Others have never been placed on the website.

As regards the MSM5100, however: please note that this MSP1000 IC references a direct interface to the MSM5100.
