CTXS is another example, there float was 98% institutional, when their announcements came, there was no hesitation by the institutions to distribute.

The Institutions are followers of other institutions, at times when market breadth is weak is when it's most obvious 1997 & 1998 are perfect examples of weak market breadth. The Institutional money was in a small group of stocks and so was individual money.

CNBC is on ballance a generator of information, the reliability of the whole of it is highly suspect.

For a really good book on Herd behavior in the markets read;
THE WAVE PRINCIPLE & HUMAN SOCIAL BEHAVIOR by Robert Prechter. It shatters alot of illusions and makes no distinction between funds and Indiv. Investors.

As you know funds are people too.
