Promotions.com Launches Wireless Promotion Technology to Expand Capabilities into Wireless Market
Proprietary PromoWave Technology to Add Wireless Users' Subscription Information to the Company's iDIALOG Database and Provide Marketers With Another Platform to Generate Targeted Sales Leads
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 6, 2000-- Promotions.com (Nasdaq: PRMO - news), the Internet promotion experts, today introduced its proprietary PromoWave(TM) wireless promotion technology. PromoWave(TM) is designed to capitalize on the rapidly growing wireless market, enhance the value of the Promotions.com iDIALOG Database(TM) for marketers by adding wireless users' subscription information and provide marketers with another platform to generate targeted sales leads.

PromoWave(TM) uses Short Messaging Service (SMS) to deliver short (90-200 character) text messages to a digital mobile phone or pager. The technology acts as a promotional engine, automatically registering a promotion entry every time an SMS message is sent to a wireless device. This enables Promotions.com to effectively integrate promotions across other mediums for its clients. Promotions.com intends to extend its current platform to support emerging formats, such as Wireless Access Protocal (WAP), a set of communication specifications to standardize the way that wireless devices can be used for Internet access.

The Company's first wireless initiative, Webstakes.com's ``Wild Wireless 100,'' www.webstakes.com/wireless, is prominently featured on the award-winning promotion portal. Consumers can register for the promotion and opt-in to receive wireless promotion messages delivered directly to their wireless devices. Consumers choose how many days per week they want to receive the messages, each one counting as an entry in a daily $100 sweepstakes. A grand prize of $1000 will be awarded after the promotion ends on October 5, 2000.

Sundial.com will be partnering with Promotions.com to take advantage of its wireless promotion. Sundial.com, an online wireless marketplace, will provide special offers for a variety of wireless devices and services to consumers who enter the promotion. ``Working together with Promotions.com is an exciting opportunity for Sundial.com to educate and enable consumers to receive promotions through wireless devices,'' said Leora Schachter, Director of Marketing of Sundial.com, ``Sundial will be able to provide this highly targeted base of consumers with a resource for all their wireless needs.''

``Wild Wireless 100'' will continue to add wireless subscription information to the Company's database. More than 140,000 consumers were already informed about the promotion launch after they opted-in to receive email notification from Promotions.com.

``Promotions.com is uniquely positioned to become the category leader of wireless promotions, capitalizing on its first-mover advantage, world-class promotion expertise and huge global base of marketers,'' said Steven H. Krein, Founding Partner of Promotions.com. ``Our commitment to the wireless space is consistent with our corporate philosophy of being leading providers of Internet promotion solutions for marketers worldwide. As the wireless market expands, companies will have to find ways to encourage consumers to receive and accept the content sent to their wireless devices on a regular basis. We are in prime position to take advantage of the market potential because Internet promotions provide the perfect incentive for consumers to receive wireless offers from marketers.''

A recent report by International Data Corporation said that wireless Internet subscribers would outnumber wired ones internationally by 2003. In addition, Forrester Research reported that wireless penetration rates in the United States would rise from 30 percent today to 61.5 percent of the population by 2005. Forrester also expects wireless revenues to surpass the $100 billion mark domestically by the same year.
