Boris Petersik of DLJ, author of the Micron downgrade yesterday, isn't a bad fellow. But, he tries to write about the DRAM sector from an office in Hong Kong. He travels around Asia and looks at the DRAM market from the users' point of view; not the producers' point of view. This creates an interesting perspective.

However, DLJ doesn't have an analyst in the USA that meets with Micron. The rest of the big brokerages have analysts that meet routinely with MU management. Further, Petersik has tried to make calls in the past on semiconductor market direction based upon relatively slight moves in DRAM spot prices in Asia. In doing so, he's trying to judge the size of the dog by inspecting only a piece of the tail.

I try to stay focused on the health of the market of the DRAM users: the PC industry. The PC industry is generally flat for the first three quarters of any year, followed by a step-function increase in the fourth quarter. Most PC analysts forecast more of the same this year. This bodes well for strong demand for DRAM through November, which in turn bodes well for strong DRAM prices through November, which bodes well for Micron stock price through year end.

Good trading, Glen
