Terayon Introduces Data-Over-Satellite Router NetStream2000 Supports High-Speed Internet Access via Satellite
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Sept. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Terayon Communication Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: TERN - news), a leading supplier of broadband access systems, today introduced its NetStream2000 router, which enables organizations to support high-speed Internet access and other data services via satellite.
Ideal for Internet Service Providers (ISPs), satellite network operators and corporations, NetStream2000 receives data at up to 53 Mbps via a standard satellite television dish and then routes the information directly to an organization's Local Area Network (LAN). This allows an organization to support fast Internet access, multiple simultaneous multicast services, such push/data broadcast services as Video-over-IP, and other data services used by businesses today. NetStream2000 supports advanced IP routing features including Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) and Network Address Translation (NAT), and can be remotely managed, monitored and configured using standard network management stations.
``Increasingly, ISPs, satellite operators, large corporations and even telecom giants are looking to deliver broadband data services via satellite. NetStream2000 enables service providers to offer these services to the SOHO (small office, home office) and corporate markets, and can also be used by large organizations for their own data needs,'' said Meir Cohen, vice president and managing director of Terayon's DVB (Digital Video Broadcast) and satellite systems.
NetStream2000 is a cost-effective solution for an organization's data services needs when conventional high-speed links to the Internet backbone -- such as T1 and E1 lines -- are too expensive or not available. NetStream2000 can also be used to supplement an organization's existing high-speed links, providing high bandwidth connectivity at a competitive cost.
NetStream2000 ensures secure communication using state-of-the-art techniques and is based on Terayon's proven DVB-S compliant technology and unique chipset to provide high performance and reliability.
NetStream2000 is the latest addition to Terayon's line of satellite products. The company's end-to-end data-over-satellite system is composed of a WebStream2000 gateway located at an uplink and a SatStream receiver card in an end-user's PC. The system supports downstream data rates up to 53 Mbps with upstream communication provided by telephone or other terrestrial networks. The system complies with the international DVB standard and was developed by ComBox, which Terayon recently acquired in order to expand its line of broadband access systems.
Terayon will demonstrate NetStream2000 and the company's other DVB- compliant cable and satellite systems at stand #4.221 at the annual IBC tradeshow in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, September 8-12, 2000.
Terayon Communication Systems provides innovative broadband access systems for delivering advanced voice, data and video services over cable, DSL and satellite networks. The company's broadband cable and DSL systems have been deployed by the world's leading cable and telecommunications carriers.
