E-Mr. Bill and Capt. K:

The real heroes in this country are not the so-called risk-taking (with the bank's money) businessmen ... or dead-butt day-traders who wouldn't know which end of a hammer to use and couldn't fix a leaky faucet if it meant saving their lives from drowning.

No, my friends, the real heroes are the people who sit in the bleachers at Wrigley Field. They're the Korean War vets who are living off fixed incomes and whose prescription drug bills are higher than their food bills. The real heroes are the divorced moms with two teen-age daughters who are working two jobs to make ends meet. They're the guy down the street who coaches your kid's ball team and who works a 20-hour shift for the power and light company after an ice storm so your computers don't stay dead for more than a couple hours. They're the first-generation Americans with last names that are Hispanic or Indian or Eastern European who still think the Statue of Liberty is relevant.

Those are the real heroes. Those are the people who make America tick. Not some greedy corporation that closes a factory in Ohio and ships the business over to Shanghai for the sake of "shareholder value."

I'm sorry if I got a little carried away there, but it's an emotional issue for me. If that makes me thin-skinned -- for speaking out for the common man and woman -- then I'm proud to be thin-skinned.

So start firing away.
