Wizaard,

Re: 3G Tornados - QCOM gorilla status in

<< "Gawd, I wish I'd written that!" >>

You are not off the hook. No question that "sditto" had one great post in response to my long convoluted question, and the comment ...

The fundamental issue is not about controlling the standard - the issue is controlling the architecture which results from the standard.

... is sound.

I however, have a thick skull, so I have not yet closed the book on my original question, have not even yet finalized the question actually.

I am still in early stages of examining this (been pondering it for 9 months), and the 3G multimedia tornado or other tornados that will form around 3G are yet far out on the horizon.

An ancillary question to be answered or at least examined relative to the statement of "sditto" above, is, in the 3G multimedia tornado, when it forms, does (will) Qualcomm control the architecture?

I'm not talking about having "essential IP" and getting paid for that IP. I think that's a given. I'm talking about "controlling the architecture".

Forget "the standard" for the moment. It looks to me, increasingly, that we are evolving into "committee controlled architecture" for 3G3 CDMA.

<< it is indeed possible if not probable that Qualcomm will be the beneficiary of many tornados >>

It could well be.

<< Qualcomm's fundamental position today are much, much stronger than ... 18 months ago >>

So do I.

However, I do not know if we can determine at this time, if Qualcomm will be a gorilla in future tornados.

FWIW.
