HG48: Critter update. Some good news, some bad...... Super on your critters that you've found and the blue heron! Happy you may have found a place to feed them!

Let me give you a critter update. I am afraid that we have lost one of our baby coons. There are only two showing up each night now. We think something happened last Friday night. There were 5 or 6 adult coons feeding and the babies were with momma. One of the adults was obviously not welcome and picking fights. They chased him up the tree in the deck where the babies normally sit on a limb.

A few minutes later I went back to check and they were gone except I noticed two of the babies way out on a limb like they were afraid and trying to get away from something. I ran out and shined a light up the tree. Nothing. I told my wife that something was wrong for momma to leave those babies and that I only saw the two. We never saw the third baby after that. We're sick about it.

But, the community feeding is going great. The coons and the possums are friendly and now eating out of the same pan, just opposite each other.

We out a big flat container of water out there as you know, and the babies love it. Even the adults play in it. Several times a night when I look out, there will be one just playing in the water below the window.

Oh yeah, we have two baby possum now. One of the babies sits on the lower limb just above head high. I will go out and hold the plate of vanilla wafers up to it and it will eat right off the plate.

The baby coons have gotten a bit better about not running off so fast when we open the door to lay out more cookies. They hang off the side of the tree and look in the window like their momma. What a hoot.

At the current rate of feeding this week, we will set a new record for both the number of cookies and pounds of dog food.

Oh yeah, almost forgot. We were just out in the garage with a net trying to catch two humming birds that had flown in. They have tied in there before. We finally caught them both. We have lots of birds we feed as well.

That's the latest critter report. Just wish our third baby coon would show up....
