CPQ traded Alta Vista for cash and CMGI shares. CPQ now owns a good chunk of CMGI. CMGI owns Alta Vista. I think CPQ still has about 15% of AV with CMGI owning 85%. The deal is old and my memory is weak at this point. Analysts and WS want to see core business results for stock valuation and give little credit for investment income or holding.

Distributing AV shares to CPQ holders would have produced a few shares per 100 shares of CPQ. We had hopes at one time, but it didn't happen.
