Other computer makers may be joining Hitachi, Sony and Quanta inchoosing Transmeta chips over Intel's.

Fujitsu Ltd., Japan's largest computer maker and support service provider, is planning to roll out notebook PCs powered by Crusoe by the end of this year, said Fujitsu spokesman Toshiaki Koike. Gateway Inc. and America Online Inc. said they would put Crusoe chips in an Internet-access device they jointly developed, a simplified PC focusing on Internet connection that will go on sale later this year.

IBM, Toshiba Corp. and NEC Corp. have said they are considering using Transmeta chips in laptops.
