Alpha Announces Production Shipments of New High-Linearity Broadband HBT Amplifiers
Company Expects to Generate more than $10 Million from First Production Orders For State-of-the-Art InGaP HBT Technology
WOBURN, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 7, 2000-- Alpha Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ:AHAA - news) today announced that it is shipping production quantities of a new family of innovative broadband amplifiers, the first products based on Alpha's advanced InGaP HBT technology, for use in a range of wireless and broadband applications.

``Alpha's new InGaP HBT amplifiers have higher linearity and lower loss than competing technologies, making them ideally suited for a wide variety of wireless and broadband applications,'' said David Aldrich, Alpha's President and CEO. ``This initial contract award should generate in excess of $10 million in annual sales for Alpha, and this is just the first step of our strategy for aggressive growth in the HBT amplifier market.''

``The new amplifiers we are announcing today are being used to improve the linearity of CDMA, wideband CDMA and other advanced wireless systems,'' Aldrich continued. ``They are also being used in broadband communications applications, including cable and fiber optics networks.''

Alpha is producing its HBT broadband amplifiers using an advanced InGaP process at the company's Silicon Valley facility, added last quarter when Alpha acquired Network Device Inc. ``We are delighted with the market's rapid acceptance of our HBT process and the speed with which we achieved volume production at our California facility,'' Aldrich said. ``Our customers clearly recognize the value of our technology in enabling not only high-linearity wireless applications but also high-speed broadband Internet applications.''
