Thu 7 Sept 2000 News Release
Mr. Glen Macdonald reports
Starfield Resources is providing progress on the summer 2000 exploration
program under way at the company's 100-per-cent-owned Ferguson Lake, Nunavut,
nickel-copper-PGE-cobalt property.
An aggressive 10,000-metre core drilling program is currently under way,
operating two drill rigs, to test UTEM geophysical anomalies detected during
the spring 2000 exploration program and reported earlier (see Stockwatch June
1 and July 26, 2000). Eight drill holes have now been completed on the West
zone during this program. These holes confirm that the UTEM geophysical
anomaly extending from the known West zone resource is caused by sulphide
mineralization; and that sulphide mineralization extends to depth and along
strike beyond the limits previously defining the known West zone resource.
These new drill intersections contain massive sulphide mineralization in
widths ranging from 1.5 metres to 22.0 metres contained within a total zone of
up to 70.0 metres thick. Drilling is continuing at depth on section 60 W.
In addition, two drill holes have been completed on the M zone, which was
located as a blind UTEM geophysical anomaly during the spring program. Hole
FL-00-39 encountered 1.5 metres of massive sulphide after exiting a pegmatite
dike, and hole FL-00-42 drilled from the same setup, oriented to avoid the
dike, intersected 18.0 metres of massive sulphide within a total mineralized
section of 25 metres. The M zone discovery is significant because it
represents a newly discovered zone of massive sulphide mineralization that had
no surface geological expression and was detected only by the UTEM geophysical
survey. The flat lying M zone anomaly extends for a length of 2,000 metres
with a width of 400 metres, and is still open along strike.
At present, samples split from the core intersections have been submitted for
assay analysis and results will be reported on a timely basis when received by
the company.
