Dow Jones Online News, 09/7/2000 15:45

WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- Alcatel SA (ALA) registered to sell up to $100 million of Class O shares in the form of American Depositary Shares.

In a registration statement filed Tuesday with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the company said it intends for the Class O shares to reflect the performance of its Alcatel Optronics division, which supplies components for use in terrestrial and submarine optical telecommunications networks.

Alcatel said in the filing it will apply to list the Class O shares on the Paris Bourse, and apply to have them quoted on the Nasdaq Stock Market.

The company said it intends to use the proceeds from the offering for general corporate purposes.

Morgan Stanley Dean Witter was listed as the underwriter for the global offering.

Alcatel, based in Paris, supplies high-tech equipment for the international telecommunications industry.
