Connecticut sues HMOs, claiming managed-care abuses
HARTFORD, Conn., Sept 7 (Reuters) - Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal said Thursday the state is suing four health-maintenance organisations (HMOs) in a bid to reform the managed-care industry.

Blumenthal said the class-action suit -- against Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, CIGNA Health Care, Physicians Health Services, and Oxford Health Plans Inc (NasdaqNM:OXHP - news) -- was filed because the industry forces patients to accept less-effective care ``simply so they can increase their profits.''

Blumenthal told a news conference, ``These managed-care companies have a moral and legal obligation to be truthful to the public and to put the need of their patients first -- and they failed to do so. They forced people to accept less-effective care.''
GORE FIGHTS FOR PATIENT BILL OF RIGHTS>>>>>WHERE"S BUSH STAND?>>>>>>he probably doesn't know what HMO stands for!
