Poised to Rise

Microsoft shares have languished as it lost the antitrust case and was ordered split in two, and
has continued to lag as investors worry that the Supreme Court, if it took the case, could rule as
early as next year in the case.

Meanwhile, Microsoft's business is showing signs of picking up after a lackluster year. Microsoft's
revenue for its fiscal year ended June 30 grew 9.4 percent, its slowest annual growth rate in five
years as personal computer sales slowed.

PC sales in the third quarter of this year are expected to grow 18.5 percent from a year ago,
market research IDC said today, and analysts say the growth in PC sales should propel sales of
Microsoft software, including Windows 2000, its new operating system for businesses.

``If we really see an uptick in PC demand, that helps them with Windows,'' Shilakes said.
