This was a very interesting post and I'm sorry it took me so long to respond. I agree almost 100% with your plan relative to "professionals".

I do think you have to go a bit further. The definition of professionals needs to include those who trade before releasing so-called reports or posting in such a way to resemble a so-called analyst. Further, the fact that the so-called analyst does not trade but acts, formally or informally, with other who trade before the release of the report, should also be covered by the various and sundry anti-manipulative statutes and regulations.

This way you will level the field on both ends. It's unfair and manipulative to promote one's self as an analyst and then come down heavy on something after taking a position individually or in conjunction with others.

I admit that there is a fine line here between the average poster and those who attempt to be "analysts" on these boards. However, if we had to name the so-called analysts, those who try to influence by putting out "releases" or posting as if they are analysts, it wouldn't be hard.
