Cooters, "In papers filed in the U.S. District Court in Delaware, Lexar said SanDisk flash memory products, including its "SmartMedia" cards, drivers and readers, allegedly infringed Lexar's patent for a "Flash memory mass storage architecture incorporation wear leveling technique." I love it when a company in Silicon Valley sues another Silicon Valley company and seeks relief in Delaware. That makes a lot of sense to me. More peculiar is why Lexar isn't suing Toshiba or Samsung? SmartMedia isn't even a SanDisk invention. Also, somebody posted that Toshiba recently made SmartMedia an open standard. Now all of a sudden Lexar owns the proprietary rights to SmartMedia??? I also thought Lexar had expertise in controllers, not flash memory architecture. Note that SmartMedia has no controller. Also, the drivers for the device are usually in the host device if I am not mistaken. So what is the suit all about? I expect SanDisk will offer some response to this suit. Perhaps some last minute posturing by Lexar to dissuade SanDisk from seeking a product injunction relating to CompactFlash? I have given up trying to guess Lexar's motivations in these lawsuits. And even mentioning "willful infringement" in a press release is like the coal calling the kettle black. Ausdauer
