Talisman Energy Says New Well Boosts North Sea Oil Production - Bloomberg Energy By Gene Laverty
Calgary, Alberta, Sept. 7 (Bloomberg) -- Talisman Energy Inc., Canada's biggest independent oil company, said a new well near its Clyde field in the U.K. North Sea is producing 10,000 barrels of oil a day.
The North Leven well, located about 3 miles from Clyde, holds an estimated 4 million barrels of oil, Talisman said in a news release distributed by Business Wire. More drilling could increase reserves by another 4 million barrels, the company said.
The well will boost Talisman's North Sea production by 6.9 percent to about 127,450 barrels a day. Talisman owns about 82 percent of the well. Esso Exploration and Production UK Ltd. owns the rest.
Talisman's North Sea production has doubled since it bought stakes in six oil fields in February from Texaco Inc. for about C$583 million ($395 million). Oil from the North Leven well is being pumped to the company's processing facilities in the Clyde field.
Talisman, based in Calgary, Alberta, also produces oil and natural gas in western Canada, Indonesia and Sudan. Its shares rose 5 Canadian cents to C$51.20 in Toronto. |
