TERAMATRIX
All-Optical Wavelength Switching Router

If you're a network engineer for a local service provider, chances are you've laid awake at night wondering how your already stressed network can possibly keep up with the relentless demand for bandwidth.

If you're the finance person who is responsible for finding the capital necessary to make the network upgrades so the engineers can get some sleep at night, chances are you've lost a few z's yourself.

Sorrento Networks' TeraMatrix is an all-optical wavelength switching router that enables service providers to dynamically provision wavelength based on user demand. The arrival of on-demand wavelengths, as the term implies, allows providers to instantly and efficiently allocate bandwidth across their entire network.

The TeraMatrix enables a smooth, cost-effective migration from hub, to ring, to a full mesh topology -- all independently of, or in conjunction with, existing Synchronous Optical Network (SONET) or Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) infrastructures. TeraMatrix delivers the protection and restoration of SONET while increasing bandwidth efficiency and supporting current Quality of Service requirements. All-optical mesh networks are better suited for today's IP-based (Internet Protocol) traffic. These networks will allow wavelengths to be routed along the best path in the network, creating efficient any-to-any connectivity. The TeraMatrix is controlled by IP/MPlS (Multi-Protocol lambda Switching) intelligence which provides the network topology and resource discovery, link state and inventory updates, wavelength assignment and routing for automatic optical channel set-up.

TeraMatrix optical switching router for the metro network core features:

All optical switch fabric
Modular and scalable from 4x4 through 512 x 512 wavelengths
Real-time wavelength connection set-up through point-and-click
IP-based intelligent control and signaling protocols
Dynamic reconfiguration of optical connections
Built-in per wavelength performance monitoring
Efficient protection and restoration
Protocol and data-rate transparency
Benefits:
Lowers initial investment costs
Provides standardized integrated management of entire optical network
Real-time provisioning to get new customers up and running quickly
Maximizes bandwidth utilization by allowing more customers access and still maintaining optical Service Level Agreements
A Good Night's sleep
