Hi jim kelley; Samsung's Eminian agrees with me rather well about the future of computers: No user serviceable parts like DIMMs. Memory soldered directly onto the motherboard. No slots. No options. Very, very cheap. The only question is what the cheapest memory to put in them will be. So far, RDRAM hasn't done too good of a job of dropping costs.

I say that they will go to MCMs with very wide bus widths, rather than RDRAM with its high usage of PCB space and tight board tolerances. The granularity isn't an issue. In the same time frame as the Samsung announcement, DDR goes into x32 and even x64 memory chips. You can therefore build a DDR system with only one or two DRAM chips, just like with RDRAM.
