***OFF TOPIC *** John,

<Lawyer don't cause useless litigation, people do....>

And certainly not many would consider lawyers people <g>. Seriously, do you realize how naive your statement above sounds. There are all kinds of lawyers who convince people to litigate who would never have otherwise even considered it. These are the vulture lawyers which represent the lowest base of our society. I saw a commercial the other day that was for a law firm trying to solicit people who had children with birth defects to sue their doctors. The add said something like "if your child was born mentally retarded it may not be your fault", call us. Now get real....what kind of animals would prey on human misery like this. And this is very typical of their thought process and very typical of the law adds that air in my part of the country ever day. There are a whole class of lawyers who profit by capitalizing on other peoples misery who could care less about victims. All they care about is getting someone to sue someone else (or getting one firm to sue another). They are extremely proactive, not passive as your comment suggests. I remember recently reading about a law firm that was soliciting share holders of a company for lead plantiffs so that they could sue a company for which they felt there was a case. The shareholders had not approaced the law firm, but the law firm was trying as hard as they could to convince shareholders to sue.

There are good ethical lawyers, no doubt. But IMO, many many of our society's ills are related to lawyers and their unethical money grubbing tactics. Lawyers may not be the root of all evils, but they are the root of more than their fair share.
