Mobile phone makers begin to roll out IS59C handsets
¡¡Keeping in step with the launch of IS95C service, an intermediary mobile communication technology between the current CDMA and IMT-2000 service, mobile phone makers are beginning to market new handsets for that service.
¡¡
¡¡Following after Samsung Electronics, which recently shipped new IS95C handsets, LG Electronics, Appeal Telecom, Pantech and others are scheduled to market their products later this year.
¡¡
¡¡LG plans to roll out one model of the IS95C handset, weighing only 70 grams, next month and will ship two additional models by the end of the year.
¡¡
¡¡Aiming to ship in November, Appeal Telecom is developing an IS59C handset, while Pantech and Telson Electronics are planning to introduce an IS59C handset early next year. Telson will supply all its products to Nokia of Finland on an OEM basis.
¡¡
¡¡Industry watchers predict that competition in the IS95C appliance market will grow fiercer due to participation by a number of smaller suppliers. Currently, Samsung and LG take about 70 percent of the domestic mobile phone market.
