and the logical avenue for reinforcement would be to move units from the Indian Ocean, not the Atlantic.
Actually, it doesn't matter either way since most US aircraft carriers can't transit the Canal.
Of course, our many support ships could use the short cut...
As for a power void in Panama... I can personally asure you that is has left one.. In the 2 year period between my visits down there, the Darien Province had been effectively overrun by FARC guerillas and the Panamanian police had been forced to send up to 1,200 heavily armed para-military police down there. (Panama no longer has an actual army).
Where do you think all of these guerillas are going to hide after the Clinton's start spending some of that $1.3 billion in military aid to Colombia? Why,... in Panama..
But again, I'm not worried about the Chinese, unless we find them providing arms to the drug traffickers/guerillas in the region, in order to stir up trouble.
