Bingo! One of the underlying elements of a bona fide Gorilla game is to have a large and expanding marketplace. A company that dominates a small niche is at best in the bowling alley and should not be accorded primate status.

In my work with VCs I get an upclose view of many early stage companies. Many have business models which support the GG attributes of competitive advantage. The problem is their ultimate target markets are too niche and they can never generate enough critical mass to create a tornado and exit the bowling alley.

To continue the animal kingdom naming conventions I might designate this class of company as "Bass" - big fish in a small pond but not any form of primate or royalty.
