That's a general perception by many these days. But there are still many sectors where unions are needed and have an active international. As I stated in a previous post, when you're talking "union member" these days, you're more likely talking about a communications worker (member of CWA) more so than a bricklayer or pipefitter. And "union" nowadays also includes doctors, nurses, symphony musicians, telephone workers, airline pilots, actors (Ronald Reagan), university professors, college grad assistants, teachers. Mitch Albom, the guy that wrote "Tuesdays With Morrie," he's a union member. Belongs to the Newspaper Guild in Detroit.
Main point: If there's an organizing drive going on at a business, there's usually one reason for it: Bad management.
Or to put it another way, bad management gets the unions it deserves. |
