CyberWorks, Telstra to Spend $120 Mln for Space on Cable quote.bloomberg.com By Kelvin Chan Hong Kong, Sept. 8 (Bloomberg) -- Pacific Century CyberWorks Ltd., Asia's No. 2 Internet company, said it is investing $120 million with its partner Telstra Corp. to buy space on the world's first undersea ``super-cable'' linking Asia and Europe. CyberWorks said the world's longest underseas cable will permit it to transmit high-speed information. It will bypass the United States, through which, until now, all Internet traffic had to pass. Keith Harrison, managing director of CyberWorks's global communications sector, said in a press statement the cable will allow the company to reduce costs and increase efficiency of providing Internet and telephone service. The cable is 40,000 kilometers long, connecting 39 landing points between Asia and Western Europe.
