>>>It is getting late for Bush to put on a surge against a sitting vice president during an economic boom with the country at peace. The Olympics start in a week, and that will suck up a lot of attention. At this point, Bush has only one realistic hope. He has to win the debates – with as large an audience as possible.

Which is why there will be at least three of them, televised on every network. Just what Al Gore has wanted all along.

No. He has two realistic hopes.

The second: Al Gore being found in bed with a live boy or a dead girl.

Short of that Bush is as the author suggests "a bloated, maggot-eaten carcass on the roadside of American politics."
