Yea, that was quite a story and sending him off to do jail time was stoopit. Too many people don't have a sense of humor anymore.

As a young kid I used to mess around with balloons and if I had had the money may have done something along those lines with a few more refinements in seating arrangements and getting down. -g-

I'll never forget one of our first balloon experiments. We made a balloon out of that thin plastic used for dry cleaning bags. Made a little platform out of balsa wood and filled a tin foil cup with sterno fuel - stole that from my mom's fondue fixings. The dry cleaner's logo was a red owl and that was on the plastic. So we go down to the park one night and light this thing off. Up it went. It looked quite cool with the flame light and the red owls glowing.

Then the wind took it and we chased after it on our bikes. We must have had some engineering defects in the sterno cup/balsa frame interface and it ended up coming down on some guy's cedar shake roof and started that on fire. As we were screwing up the courage to ring the doorbell and tell him his house was on fire, the cops showed up and the fire was put out.

Turns out about a dozen people had been calling in a UFO sighting! Made the front page of the local paper but we had to keep our traps shut as the paper noted it was going to cost $1000 to fix the roof. -g-
