Thanks for the offer, she_x, but I have no desire to play the role of executioner for a committee. Some of the G&K gang petitioned me to switch that thread to moderated status when SI offered the option, but I declined. Imo, if a thread isn't united sufficiently to repel attacks and strong enough to survive them, there is little reason to safeguard it.

I took the step of modifying the Porch header on 8/30 because I felt the thread was being intentionally damaged by a few disruptive posters. My action was an attempt to highlight the severity of of the situation and initiate a debate that might lead to a consensus. Now that the process has begun I have restored the header to its original condition, and offer my apologies to those who found it restrictive.
