You are not going to believe this BUT:

Grew up in Meridian, Miss. followed Ole Miss's great teams in the late fifties and early sixties. the 59 team was voted Team of the decade in the SEC. A lot of people do not believe this when I tell them that the DEFENSE of that team did not allow a POINT ALL YEAR. The team only allowed 21 points all year in what has to be one of the Toughest conferences in the nation. The offense allowed all 21 points by two interceptions and you guessed it BILLY CANNON's epic Punt Return when the two met for the National championship in Baton Rouge. Now get this, LSU was number two in the nation and Ole Miss was number one. Ole Miss was so confident in their defense that they were punting on THIRD DOWN. Well Cannon made his run on a third down punt with about 1:50 left in the fourth qtr. With that run he won the Heisman Trophy and they won the National Championship. Saddest night of my life. I tell you that so you understand why I follow Ole Miss.

Now, I went to Southern Miss. They happen to have a track meet with all fraternities and M- Club ( football players). I happen to outrun them all in the dashes and they coaches asked if I had ever played football and I lied a little and said yes, IN THE MARINE CORP. knowing it could not be checked. Long story short, went out and was awarded a two year scholarship. I did not consider myself a football player, just a RARE white kid who could run.
