I've had both. I would suggest you go with a female as the males can be quite the handful. Only drawback with a bitch is when she goes into heat but that is a minor problem compared to the challenges you might have with a crafty male.

I had a dog house - nothing fancy, but it does have an entrance designed so the wind can't whistle through it. I only brought the dog in when it dropped below 0. Then kept the dog in the basement most of the time and if I couldn't keep an eye open, kept the dog on a chain. Otherwise they will go snooping around and get into something or another.

And you can tell if they have been doing something bad because they will slink around with the guiltiest look on their face when you first see them. -g- As I said, smart ... they know they are in trouble for eating up that bag of potato chips you left on the counter. -g-
